If you are not happy with the appearance of your smile, porcelain veneers offer a comprehensive solution that can transform your appearance. This cosmetic treatment is an ideal solution to address issues such as staining, chips, gaps, and asymmetry. In some cases, veneers can even make teeth appear straighter without the need for orthodontics. At Dental Wellness of Westchase, we help our patients in Tampa, FL, design and achieve the smiles they have always wanted through personalized treatment.
A Unique Restoration
Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells that are attached to the front surfaces of the teeth. These wafer-thin layers of highly durable dental ceramic are crafted in a laboratory to fit your smile perfectly and last for up to ten years or more. Porcelain may seem like a fragile material, but veneers are constructed to be as strong and natural-looking as your original tooth enamel.
Porcelain veneers are an excellent option if you have issues with the color, texture, size, or shape of your teeth because these restorations provide a completely new surface for each tooth. You may choose to have veneers placed on a single damaged tooth, a few teeth, or all the teeth that show when you speak and smile.

Are Veneers Right for You?
Any patient in a good state of oral health can improve their smile with porcelain veneers. If you have any untreated issues, such as dental cavities, we will need to schedule restorative treatments before starting the cosmetic treatment process. Patients who display signs of gingivitis or gum disease will need to be assessed individually and may need to have a series of periodontal treatments before veneers can be considered.
What to Expect
During your consultation, we will examine your teeth and listen to your concerns and aesthetic goals. Once we understand how you would like to change your smile, we will recommend a veneers treatment that addresses these goals as conservatively as possible. Dr. Amy Creech-Gionis or Dr. Lennie Stern will create a mock-up of your projected outcome. This step is extremely important because it gives you the opportunity to make sure your new smile achieves your goals.
Once you approve the designs for your veneers, we will prepare the teeth by gently removing a layer of enamel. This process ensures the final veneers will be stable and will lay flat next to your other teeth. Once your tooth is prepared, a member of our team will take a digital dental scan of the teeth eliminating the need for a mouth full of dental impression material, in most cases. These scans will be used by a custom dental laboratory artist to fabricate each unique porcelain veneer. You will receive a set of temporary veneers to wear during the interim period, while the final veneers are being constructed. Since these veneers are only temporary, you will need to be gentle with them.
After your veneers have been constructed, approximately two weeks later, you will have a second appointment. During this visit, you can examine your restorations during a review session before we place them. We want all our patients to be pleased with their cosmetic outcomes, so you will always have the final word in approving your veneers. If you are unhappy with the way any of your veneers look, we can always have a new one created to correct the issue. If you are pleased with the final veneers, we will then affix them to the teeth and your new smile will be ready to share.
Dental porcelain is not as porous as tooth enamel, so your veneers will not stain as easily as your natural teeth.
Caring for Your Veneers
One of the best aspects of veneers is that they require no special maintenance. Brush your teeth twice a day, floss at least once daily, and maintain your routine preventative dental care. Take care to use non-abrasive toothpastes, as abrasive materials can damage the ceramic material. Dental porcelain is not as porous as tooth enamel, so your veneers will not stain as easily as your natural teeth. With proper care and regular visits to the dentist, your veneers can last up to ten years or more.
